I am a planner and creature of habit. I like my routine and I like to know what is going on. I’m not one for surprises. However I had to throw my plans out the window and go with the flow. Two weeks ago Shadrach threw a wrench in the weekend by deciding to take Friday off from work.It was a good wrench, don’t get me wrong, but I just wasn’t planning on it. 😉 Friday mornings are for grocery shopping with my mom, instead Shadrach, Logan, and I had a family day. It was a good idea to throw my plans out the window because I loved spending my day with two of my favorite people. 🙂
We surprised Logan and took him to the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery, in Dayton. He loved being able to touch everything, or almost everything. He didn’t know what he wanted to do first and just kept running from display to display. Then, one of the things I dread happened.
We were in a little house that was showing us how electricity and energy works. Then Logan grabs himself, starts jumping around and says, “Mommy, I have to go pee pee!!” I could tell from the look on his face it was at the urgent point. Shadrach grabbed his hand and started for the bathroom. Just as I was getting ready to tell Shadach to pick Logan up and run, it happened…
He peed right there all over the stairs and a huge spot on the carpet! Logan had held it too long and we failed as parents by not forcing him to go as soon as we arrived :). The tears came next (from Logan, not me, although I felt like crying too :)) Thankfully, I remembered to bring a change of clothes!
I managed to get Logan cleaned up and calmed down and we went back to playing but to have that happen in the first 15 minutes of being there was not the plan. We didn’t let it dampen our day though.
Normally, I over prepare for everything we do, but for some reason, I didn’t on Friday. See that’s what happens when you change things up on me. I had thought to bring Logan a change of clothes, thankfully, but I didn’t bring much in the way of food. I just assumed the museum had a food court. Most places do! Well, their idea of a food court turned out to be vending machines.
Our lunch was the lunch of champions. We had chips, cookies, and snacks for lunch. I really get the mom of the year award for this trip, not! It was fun though and it’s one of those things that Logan will probably remember forever. Lunch out of the machines. 🙂
The museum was fun and I’m glad we took the time to go and I’m thankful Shadrach took Friday off. Sometimes I need my life shook up a bit.
Friday night Shadrach and I were supposed to go spend the night at our family’s lake house (which is less that 10 minutes from our house) but it didnt’ work out :(. It would have been my first night away from Logan. In 3.5 years I have never had a night away and I was kind of looking forward to it. (Does that make me a bad mom?) I guess we will just have to try again another weekend.
With the change of plans, I was able to hit up our local farmers market with my mom, which is always fun. We also hit up a few stores like Ollies, which has a fantastic book section. I am a bit of a book addict, so it’s not a good combination. Let’s just say I came out with more books than I should have 😉
The rest of the weekend was quiet and very uneventful, just the way I like it. 🙂 We introduced Logan to the Olympics and spent a good part of the weekend watching it. Anyone else enjoy watching the Olympics? We are more Summer Olympic fans as opposed to Winter but I have great memories as a child watching them. I hope to pass those memories on to Logan.
I hope you are enjoying the Olympics. What are your favorite events to watch?
