I remember a few years ago, shortly after Logan was born, I went to an OBGYN appointment. It was the first time I had been to this particular office since we had just moved to Ohio. I can remember the nurse asking me where I worked. I politely told her that I was a stay-at-home-mom. It was her statement after this that stuck with me and made me realize that I have a unique mom uniform.
She gave me a funny look and then proceeded to inform me that I was dressed very nicely for a stay-at-home-mom. She then told me that most of the moms she sees wear yoga pants or comfortable clothes.
The funny thing was that I was just in jeans and a nice shirt. Nothing fancy, but it was not yoga pants. I was a little embarrassed, but then I stopped and reminded myself that I have always enjoyed dressing nicely. In fact, if I could wear a skirt and dress every day, I would. However, life with a kid does not always make that easy, especially in those moments where I am running after my son on the top of the playground equipment or having to get down on the floor and play with him. Here’s where the mom uniform enters.
Prerequisites for the Perfect Mom Uniform
After giving birth to Logan, I had gained more weight than I care to admit, and I struggled with finding clothes that fit right. However, I discovered even after I lost all the baby weight, that a lot of the clothes I wore pre-baby just didn’t feel good or worked well with a baby. Along the journey, I figured out that there were a few things I expected from clothes.
Here are some of the prerequisites I look for before I buy clothes as a mom:
- I need clothes that fit well and are comfortable. Running after a baby or toddler is not easy and wearing comfortable clothes makes it a little more manageable.
- I want stylish clothes. I never want to wear only yoga pants or workout clothes. Don’t get me wrong, I still wear yoga pants A LOT, but I try to put jeans or nicer clothes on as much as possible.
- I need clothes I feel confident wearing. I do not like wearing clothes that are too tight because then I feel uncomfortable and my confidence goes down. Plus it’s hard to run after a child when you can barely move in your clothes. 🙂
- I look for modest clothes that do not make me look like or feel like a frumpy housewife. Plus, I cannot be worrying about whether I am showing too much cleavage or my butt is hanging out of my pants.
Where to Get the Perfect Mom Uniform
While there are a few places I love to get clothes from, there is one in particular I wanted to share with you. I recently came across the clothing brand prAna, and I received the opportunity to try an outfit. Can I just say, it was love at first try! The moment I put these clothes on they felt amazing! I did not want to take them off.
These clothes are the most comfortable things I have ever put on. I felt stylish, yet it almost felt like I was in yoga pants. That part was the biggest win of all! Plus they met all of my above requirements. When I was looking through their website, I could have easily bought everything. All of their clothes are amazing!
The real test came the other day when I ventured out to the park with Logan and Shadrach. I was able to run around and enjoy playing without worrying about how I felt or looked. These clothes are perfect for that on-the-go, active mom or any woman for that matter!
The Perfect Outfit
I am wearing the Cleo t-shirt (peach) and Tess short (white) in these pictures. I am not always very comfortable in shorts, but sometimes, that is what the situation calls for and what works. The issue I have with shorts is that they always feel too tight in the legs and if I go up in size the waist always ends up being too big. It is quite the dilemma.
The Tess shorts were perfect though! They fit great and were not too tight on my legs. The waist was a little loose, but I did not have to keep pulling them up or adjust them.
The Cleo t-shirt is great too! It is form-fitting without being too tight, and the material is soo soft. This top works for going to the park or the grocery store. It’s the perfect balance of casual. I had such a hard time choosing which color shirt to get, but the one I decided on was perfect.
One of the big things about prAna that I appreciated is that they use sustainable materials for all their clothes. They use recycled and natural, organic materials. I love that! All around this company and their clothes are perfect. They allow me to be a comfortable, stylish mom while still being contentious about the environment!
