I can’t believe that the first month of 2017 is over!! Where did it go? I hope the rest of the year doesn’t go this quickly. The beginning of the month didn’t exactly start out the way that I had planned. If you follow along on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter), you may have seen our family Christmas picture below. Our year didn’t start out with a bang, but it’s been good otherwise. I thought I’d share some of the highlights from the month of January.
Celebrated My Mom’s Birthday
First up this month is my mom’s birthday on January 6th. My dad, Logan, and I celebrate with her by getting Mexican food! Couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate. Unfortunately, Shadrach had to work that night, so I brought some food home to him. 🙂 (Proof I do think of him from time to time 😉 )
We Said Goodbye to Naptime
It’s true! My child no longer takes naps! I feel that this has been a harder adjustment for me than it was for him. Ha! I have been dreading the day. Now it’s here, and it is as hard as I thought it would be. 🙂
The trade off is that he is now in bed asleep by 9 pm every night. For the past few months, naptime was causing him not to be tired, so he was staying awake past midnight! Not to mention he would get out of bed a million times. Nixing naps has caused all of those problems to end, thankfully. I just miss that middle-of-the-day break. He does have quiet time in his bed with his iPad, but after about 20 minutes he’s done and is begging to come out. That’s a mom’s life for you, though! 🙂 I’m sure we (and by we I mean me) will adjust eventually.
Our First Date Night of the Year
Earlier this month, I wrote about how you should set intentional goals as a family. We are trying hard to make sure we work on some of them. One of which is a monthly date night. So, Shadrach and I sat down and decided that the second Saturday of each month is our official date night. I set it up with my parents to watch Logan for us. So they have it on their calendar that Logan is all theirs the second Saturday of each month. 🙂
We had our first date this year, happened to be the first weekend instead of the second. With being sick, I got a little off on what day of the month it was. 🙂 Anyway, we had a date night. Our goal is always to do something fun that allows us to spend time together talking. We tend to avoid movie theaters and the like. In fact, we haven’t been to a movie theater since before Logan was born (which is four years ago!). I’m not sure I could stay awake through one anymore. Does that make me old? 🙂
So for this date, we headed to a mall since there were a few things that Shadrach needed. We ended up in the Best Buy mobile, and we upgraded my phone. (I know, we live on the edge.) It took FOREVER for some reason. So by the time we finished, the mall was closing, and we needed to eat dinner. We headed to Max and Erma’s which we had never eaten at before. It was pretty good, or maybe we were hungry. Ha! After dinner, we just headed home.
I’m excited that we already have our next date set up. Last year we only went on two dates the whole year, so the thought of having one every month is so exciting!! What can I say, I’m a SAHM, and the idea of getting out of the house kid free is such a treat! 🙂
Chick-Fil-A Opening and Tipp City
I am a southern girl and with that comes a deep love for Chick-fil-A. The closest one to us is in Dayton, Ohio which is 45 minutes away! However, one opened up that is now 30 minutes away instead! Who would have thought I’d get excited about that? Anyway, my mom and her best friend invited Logan and me along with them last Friday for an afternoon out, and we headed to Chick-fil-A for lunch. They had just opened the day before, so it was pretty busy but soo worth it! Logan loves that place. His only complaint was that there wasn’t a playground in this one.
After lunch, we headed to a fun little town called Tipp City and visited a few antique stores. Yep, you read that right. I took my 3, almost four year old, to antique stores. All the breakables made me a little nervous, but he did a great job keeping his hands to himself. I made sure to let him know that we look with our eyes and not our hands. I may have had to remind him of that a few times along the way. By the end of it all, he was over it, though. He was tired and whiney, so he asked me to carry him. I also realized that he is quickly getting too big to carry and that makes me so sad.
All in all, it was a fun afternoon, though. I’m hoping my mom, and I can take an afternoon to head back to Tipp City, sans Logan, so maybe I can do a little more shopping. I didn’t do a whole lot of looking considering I had visions of Logan picking up something expensive and breakable. So my eyes stayed on him. This trip was more about just getting out of the house. One day I’ll get to enjoy shopping again right? 🙂
Logan Turned 4!!
My baby turned four on Sunday the 29th. I can’t believe how quickly he is growing up. We didn’t do much for his birthday. Usually, instead of buying a bunch of gifts, we try to have a fun family day for his birthday. However, this year, Shadrach had to work on Saturday which prevented us from doing what we planned. Instead, after Shadrach got off work, we went out for a bit.
There is a local toy store that we hit up. Logan received some money from his grandma, and so we took him there to let him pick out a toy. I thought he’d be more excited about picking out a new toy, but he wanted to play more than he wanted to shop. 🙂 So Shadrach and I helped him pick out a toy. We decided on Bristle Blocks. Have you ever seen these? They have turned out to be a cool, fun toy!
On Sunday, his actual birthday, we surprised him with some decorations around the house, and I made him some funfetti pancake muffins. Then we just spaced out his gifts through the day so he could play with them and not be overwhelmed.
I also made him a fun tie-dyed birthday cake, and he helped me. So, after lunch, we had cake and ice cream. The rest of the day was just relaxing and low-key, just the way we like it.
My Plum Paper Planner
I might have mentioned above that the new year didn’t exactly start the way that I had hoped. Well, that meant that I didn’t get to sit down and plan things out and make my goals as I wanted. However, I did get a fantastic planner ordered. It’s from Plum Paper. It arrived about a week ago, and it pushed me to sit down and start planning everything out for the year. I’m so in love. 🙂
I’m also excited to share with you that we partnered up with Plum Paper to give you a discount. In case you haven’t found the perfect planner, or maybe you didn’t even realize you needed one. You do!
