I’m knee deep in cookie baking today for our Christmas caroling party on Saturday evening but I wanted to pop in and say hi! So, Hi, Happy Friday! Did you survive your week? Mine flew by but I thought I’d fill you in on some of the highlights from my week.
1. Fun Movie Night
A few times over the past few months, we’ve had a few impromptu movie nights with Logan. They’ve all been a bit different but mainly we just gather in front of a tv and watch a movie that Logan has chosen. Logan LOVES movie night! He loves it so much that he is constantly asking for one every weekend. Shadrach kept promising him we would have one over Thanksgiving weekend, but we just ran out of time.
On Sunday, we made it happen, but we also made it a little more special than the other times. I drove up to the store and picked up a bunch of dollar candy and a cute Christmas tin. I put it all together, then we popped some popcorn, got in our jammies, and we had a real movie night in our bed. Logan’s face was priceless when we handed him the tin full of candy. (Full disclosure, he was only allowed to pick one or two snacks and we only gave him a bit of them. He DID NOT get the whole box of candy.)
The plan is to make this a monthly family night. So, I will try to keep a tin full of dollar candy. I may have to hide it from Shadrach though, he already ate most of what was leftover from the other night. 🙂
2. That Nagging Feeling
So, on Sunday night when I was going to bed, I had this nagging feeling that there was something I was supposed to do on Monday. I knew I had a couple of doctors appointments this week, but I thought they were on Tuesday and Friday. I just ignored it and went to bed anyway. Well, I woke up Monday morning around 8:45 and that feeling was still there. So I got out my calendar and looked. My appointment was written in for Monday at 9:45!! I was supposed to be there at 9:30 plus it is a thirty minute drive. I was freaking out!
You know that moment where you don’t know what to do so you just stand there frozen? That was me! Never mind the fact that I had just rolled out of bed and I wasn’t fully awake. I quickly realized there was no way I was going to make it to my doctor’s appointment, so I grabbed my phone and called to reschedule. Finally, I get through the automated messages to a person, a very kind person. I apologized profusely and said that I forgot about the appointment and I wanted to change it. She kindly told me no problem, it happens sometimes.
She asks for my information and pulls my file up. Turns out, the appointment was really for Tuesday, not Monday. I wrote it on my calendar wrong. Thank goodness I hadn’t looked Sunday night or I would have showed up for an appointment a whole day early. There’s always a silver lining right? Not the way I like to start my mornings, but that probably woke me up faster than my coffee. ?
3. My Find of the Week
I had my appointment on Tuesday. Afterwards, I knew that I needed to stop and pick up some batteries from Wal-Mart before heading home. When I’m alone, stops at Wal-Mart always take longer than I think they will. I don’t have anyone, like a child, to distract me and I take my time to really look around. On Monday, my mom and I had been discussing getting one of those plugs for the Christmas tree that will allow you to turn it on and off with your phone. We forgot to look while we were grocery shopping , and decided that $30 to $40 for a technical gadget was just too much.
Well, I decided to take a look in the electronics department and see what they had in the way of phone controlled plugs. A box caught my eye. It was an ihome smart plug. It had a yellow clearance sticker on it and said $19! Can you believe that? The only downside was that it looked like it had been opened. I quickly checked with someone that worked there to make sure I could bring it back if it didn’t work. They said as long as I had the receipt and box, I could return it. So, I thought, what do I have to loose right?
I went to pay for it and guess what? It rang up for $9.97! I got a $40 plug for $9.97. Can you believe that?.. because I can’t! In fact, I’m still pretty excited about it. Especially since as soon as I got home, I set it up and it works perfectly. To me, that was the find of the year! It definitely made my day. 🙂
4. Sleep Issues
I feel like once a child is almost 4 that all sleep issues should be something of the past. However, I have the hardest time getting Logan to go to bed at night. I tuck him in, and leave the room. Then five minutes later he is up. It usually takes anywhere from an hour to two hours for him to fall asleep. It drives me crazy! Is this a normal thing for kids this age? Trust me when I say that I have tried EVERYTHING to get him to stay in bed.
There is something that I think might help, but I’m afraid to say it… I think we might have to get rid of naptime. There, I said it!. It hurts just to think about it though. I have so few moments to myself and naptime is the only time where I usually get an hour to just sit and relax and do whatever I want. The flip side to this though, is if he goes without a nap, he will be ready for bed by 8:30 and sleep until 8:00 or 8:30 the next morning. That would give me a few hours in the night to get things done, provided he stayed in bed and went right to sleep.
Right now, he goes to bed around 10:00 at night and falls asleep by 12:00. By that time, I’m ready to go to bed. Then he gets up between 8:00 and 9:00am. He still takes a two hour nap everyday, but I’ve been trying to limit it to an hour or so. It’s not working. I’m just not sure what to do. At what age do kids usually give up their naps? I mean, I’m 34 and would take a nap every single day if I could. 🙂 I’ll keep you posted and if you have any suggestions or thoughts I’d love to hear them!
Okay, last thing! We started getting snow flurries this week. ? Logan is so excited about snow. I know I need to take a note of his excitement and hope it rubs off on me, but I’m struggling. I’m a North Carolina girl by heart and I miss my mild winters. Winters here in Ohio can be a little rough and the first sign of snow means it’s here and not leaving until April or May. I will say, I do enjoy a good white Christmas though! So, come on snow, you have a few weeks and then you have to move on! Ha!
Well, there you have it! That’s the highlights from our week. Now I need to head back to my Christmas cookies! I hope you are all enjoying the holiday’s!
