At this point in the journey to raising Logan, we are diaper free! Hallelujah! It was a long, difficult process for us, which you can read about here. About six months ago we finally went pull-up free at night. So I can officially say that Logan is potty trained. Since we are not using diapers anymore, it means I can head out of the house without a diaper bag. This makes me one happy mom! I love being able to use all my cute purses again. 🙂
However, just because we don’t use diapers, it doesn’t mean that we are free from having to keep a few things on hand, for on the go and in the bathroom. There are a few essentials that I still depend on even at this stage of Logan’s life. So, I want to share with you what these five necessary items are for the potty trained child.
A Change of Clothes in the Car
I keep a spare pair of pants, shirt, underwear, socks, and shoes in the car. These are not for quick trips down the road or to the store but for those days where we are gone all day. I put them in a Wal-Mart bag so that I have something to put the wet clothes into in case there is an accident. Yes, accidents will still happen. I say this from experience because just when I thought Logan was fully potty trained, he had an accident at the most inopportune time. You can read all about it here. Thankfully, I was ready for this situation, and since then I still continue to be prepared. Sometimes accidents will happen, it’s just a part of life with little ones, even when you think they are completely potty trained. 🙂
Travel Pack of Wipes
I like to keep a pack of wipes in the car as well for when those accidents strike. They are also perfect for messy little hands after a sticky treat or playing at the playground. Happy Little Camper has a set of all-natural travel wipes that are ideal for taking on the go! I love that they are all-natural and there are no harsh chemicals. Logan has such sensitive skin, and I can’t use just any wipe on him. I feel comfortable using these on him, knowing they won’t cause him to break out. They are even perfect for wiping up the dirty face!
A Step Stool
Now, moving on to the things I keep in the bathroom for Logan. A step stool is a necessity. Our toilet is still too tall for Logan to get on and off on his own. So I keep a small little step stool that he can use the potty and sink. It gives him freedom and the ability to do things on his own. Now if only the stool could help him pull up his pants and wipe himself. 🙂
Hand Sanitizer
Logan is one of those kids that hates to stop and go potty, let alone take the extra few minutes to wash his hands. So, one essential for us is alcohol-free, foaming hand sanitizer. This allows Logan to clean his hands quickly after he goes to the bathroom so he can get back to his play. Also, I keep a small container of this with us when we are on the go. It’s essential for those moments where there is no soap, like porta potties.
Flushable Wipes
As I mentioned above, Logan has sensitive skin. When he was two weeks old, we were at the doctor’s office dealing with the worst diaper rash ever! The horrible rash was caused by brand name diapers and wipes. So, we had to switch to all-natural diapers and wipes. The diaper rash was a constant battle the first year or two of his life. I thought for sure by the time he was potty trained I wouldn’t have to worry about it anymore. NOPE! I was wrong.
We had been using regular brand name flushable wipes for a while, but he kept getting red and complaining that his bottom hurt. I felt like I was always taking out the Aquaphor and putting it on his bum. Just as I was getting ready to hunt for some all-natural wipes, what do you know? I found out that Happy Little Camper also carried all-natural flushable wipes. You guys, these are a game changer! I love that they are completely free of harsh chemicals and are gentle for his bum. They are thick and good quality, which is important to me. Plus they are safe to flush! So, I’ve said goodbye to the chemical filled wipes, and now I keep a container of these in their place.
I wish these wipes had been around when Logan was still a baby. They are perfect for baby bums as well as potty trained toddlers. 🙂 I’m truly comfortable using these, especially knowing that they are all-natural! So, head on over and check out Happy Little Camper!
Do you have specific items you keep on hand for your potty trained child? I’d love to hear from you!
* We were kindly gifted the wipes mentioned above from Happy Little Camper, but as always, all opinions are our own. You can read our disclosure here.
great post and cute pics. Really useful list. I found that using toys and games (to keep him occupied) made it a lot easier while potty training my son.
That is so great!! Thanks for sharing your tips, and I sure do wish that those flushable wipes were around when my son was little!! 🙂 Have a nice day!
Thank you Amy! They are definitely a life saver. 🙂
