It’s official, Thanksgiving is over so now I can start thinking about Christmas! I’m not sure why, but I’m super excited about diving into decorations and all the festivities. I’m thinking it’s because Logan seems to get so excited about it all. Each year he seems to get more and more into it. Just the other day I told him that I would put his Christmas tree up in his room after Thanksgiving. He got so excited, he hugged me and said that he loved me. Talk about my heart melting and becoming a puddle on the floor. 🙂 I can’t wait to jump right in, but before I do, I thought I’d give you a recap of what we were up to this month.
1) I Celebrated My Birthday
At the beginning of November, I turned 34. This isn’t something I broadcasted or shouted from the mountain tops. To be honest, I am still having a hard time believing that I’m 34! It seems so old and somehow I feel like I’m still in my twenties. Is that possible? Since we were on Whole30 during my birthday, Shadrach took me out this past weekend to celebrate. So the month of November has turned into a whole month of birthday celebrations. I kind of like it this way. I think all birthdays should be celebrated for more than a day. 🙂 We ended up getting some Christmas shopping done and of course, we ended up at Wal-Mart. Not sure why, but we struggle with finding fun, cheap things to do on a date night. Anyone else struggle with this?
2) Family Time at Wegerzyn Gardens
The weekend following my birthday we took some time together as a family. Shadrach, Logan, me, and my parents. We headed into Dayton and spent a beautiful morning at Wegerzyn Gardens. Shadrach and I had taken Logan two summers ago but we didn’t get any farther than the children’s area. My parents had never gone so we decided to go check it out. They have a fantastic children’s area and during the summer there is a man-made creek and waterfall that kids can play in. Super fun! Added bonus, it’s free!
I was afraid when we got there this time, being November, that it would be ugly and brown, but given the mild Fall we’ve had, it was still pretty. I’m sure it’s nothing compared to Spring but it was still a nice and fun morning exploring all the different parts of the gardens.
3) A New Bed Arrived!
Yep, you read that right! We got the Mack daddy’s of beds and we couldn’t be more excited. Two Saturday’s ago our brand new Sleep Number Bed was delivered. I’m not sure who loves it more, Shadrach, me, or Logan. Ha! It’s not even for Logan, but he is in the bed every chance he gets. 🙂 Shadrach has really bad back pain and we felt it was time to get a bed that might help solve the problem or at the very least, make the pain a little more bearable. So far, we are loving the bed! In the next few weeks or so, keep an eye out for our review. 🙂
4) Out with the blue, in with the new!
When we moved in with my parents almost 4 years ago, our room was a horrible blue with a dark wood molding. It was just a very dark and dated room. Since we had a new bed coming, we felt it was the perfect time to paint our bedroom. We had only one weekend between when the bed was bought and when it was being delivered. So we jumped on it and got busy. I chose a light gray for the walls (Repose Gray from Sherwin Williams) and white for the trim (True White from Sherwin Williams).
Can I just say, I’m in love with my new room! Just changing the colors transformed it and made it feel so grown up and different! The room isn’t finished yet. We have big plans for it. So, when it’s all done, I will be sharing the details. 🙂 For now here are the before and after pictures of the paint job.
5) A Low Key Thanksgiving
We didn’t have a traditional Thanksgiving meal. GASP! I know! It’s crazy! My mom had to drive back and forth from our house to my grandparents, to take care of my grandma with Alzheimer’s. So we decided it was best to keep the meal simple. Plus, neither my mom or I wanted to be in the kitchen cooking and cleaning all day. So instead of the traditional Thanksgiving turkey with all the sides, we had steaks! I know it was a little strange, but it was soo good. We did steaks, mashed potatoes, roasted brussel sprouts, corn, and homemade rolls. For dessert, we had apple pie and pumpkin cheesecake. It was all so yummy and clean up was a breeze. Other than that, our day was low key and relaxing.
There you have it! The highlights for the month of November. Did you have a great Thanksgiving? Anything fun and exciting happened during the month? I’d love to hear about it. 🙂
Now it’s time to move on to Christmas! Bring on all things Christmas!!!
