Happy First Official Day of Summer! I know I say this all the time, but seriously, where does the time go?!? Here June is almost over, and I still haven’t taken the time to sit down and share my favorite moments from April and May. So, before June is out the door and I fall behind by three months, here are my favorite moments from Spring.
Family Day in Dayton
Logan had a Doctor’s appointment in Dayton at the beginning of April, so Shadrach took the whole day off on that Friday, and we made a day of it. After the appointment, we grabbed lunch at Uno’s Pizzeria and Grill. Our next stop was Carriage Hill Metropark which ended up being amazing! There was more to see and do that I expected which made it a great place to explore! It’s on our list of places to visit again soon!\
One weekend, we had a family day with my parents. Since Logan had never been bowling, we decided that would be the perfect way to spend our afternoon. The amazing part was that we were the only people bowling. Afterward, we ate pizza at a little local place we’d never tried before. It was such a fun day, and I learned that Logan is the best little encourager. He cheered all of us on the entire time we bowled 🙂
Sidewalk Chalk to the Rescue
Since the weather started getting warm and pleasant in April, Logan and I took every chance possible to be outside. However, since we don’t have a lot of outside toys, I had to get creative. I can’t remember exactly where I found it, but I saw someone draw roads on the driveway with sidewalk chalk for their kiddos to drive their little cars on. Well, Logan has this big dump truck and excavator, and they are perfect for this. So, I took the time and drew a big road with our sidewalk chalk on the driveway, and it kept Logan entertained for hours! He was so sad when it rained and washed his road away 🙁 I predict that I will be drawing a lot more chalk roads in the future since they seem to be such a hit!
Spring Means Outside Time
It’s no secret that Ohio has rough winters, or atleast rough compared to what I’m use to (because I’m a southern girl). This means that I don’t spend a lot of time outside during the cold months. So as soon as it starts warming up, I head outside with Logan. All through April, there were hours spent at the local park, taking walks, and playing in the backyard. I’m thankful for the early spring we had this year for sure!
Day Trip to the Aquarium
The beginning of May started with us taking Logan on a surprise trip to the Newport Aquarium. We had been there the year before but made the mistake of going on Easter weekend, and it was packed! It was so crowded that I feel like we didn’t get to see any of the exhibits. Therefore, we decided we should give the aquarium a second chance, especially since Logan loved it that first time and kept asking to go back.
So, Shadrach took that Friday off from work, and we got up early and headed out for a family day. The best part was that we didn’t tell Logan where we were going and when we got there he was so excited and loved his surprise. I will say, it was still a little more crowded than we would have liked, but overall it was a much better trip. It’s a great aquarium if you ever get a chance to visit! Logan declared it, “The BEST day EVER!” In fact, he’s still telling me that two months later. Shadrach said we’re officially cool parents!
An Exciting Opportunity
May also brought exciting news for me! I became a contributor for the e-magazine Raising World Children. I’m so excited for this opportunity, and I can’t wait to see where it takes me. If you haven’t had a chance, be sure to head over and check out my first article!
We also celebrated Shadrach’s birthday this month! I’m pretty sure that Logan had enough excitement for all of us. He was excited to decorate, give daddy a card, and eat all the birthday cake! It was a wonderful day, and we enjoyed celebrating my amazing man. On a side note, I decorated the doorway to our room and when Shadrach woke up and opened the door to come outside, he said the decorations scared him! (I guess he wasn’t expecting that, still being half asleep :))
It’s Vegetable Time
May was also when we got our vegetable garden planted! Last year was the first year my dad built raised beds, and our garden didn’t do so well. We got a few vegetables from it, but overall it was an epic fail. So, this year, we have made some changes and are trying again! (If at first, you don’t succeed, try, try again. Right?) My dad bought a soil test kit and figured out what was missing. So, I’m looking forward to lots of fresh veggies all summer long! I’ll keep you updated on how it goes. 😊
The Beginning of Arts and Crafts
I’m not sure if any of you boy moms can relate, but Logan has had zero interest in coloring or doing any arts and crafts (which I understand is normal for boys). Then all of a sudden one day in May he asked me if he could do a craft. Well, I do not exactly keep crafts on stand-by so I broke out the crayons and a coloring book. Coloring is a craft, right? It seemed to satisfy his need. The part that makes me excited is that he has kept his crayons out on his table along with some paper and takes frequent brakes from playing just to color. One day he even made a treasure map, and we wondered around the back yard looking for treasure. I love watching him grow and change, but I’m sad that my baby is growing up!
Being a stay-at-home-mom to a child that’s not in school yet means that it hasn’t felt like a ‘summer break’ for us except that it’s gotten hot outside. However, today is officially the first day of summer, and I am breaking out our Summer Bucket List! Hopefully, it will start feeling like summer soon. 😊
Make sure you check out our summer bucket list, and if you would like to make one for your family, we have a free printable just for you! Well, that’s all I have! I’ll be back soon with our June highlights! What was one of your favorite moments from April or May?
